About ADINOX M420 Vibration Resistant Adhesive

ADINOX® M420 is a flexible vibration resistant adhesive — a two-component, flexibilized toughened structural adhesive with a 10:1 mix ratio, formulated for the structural bonding of metals such as aluminum, stainless steel and carbon steel, thermosets, thermoplastics and composites.

This flexible methacrylate adhesive increases the vibration, fatigue and impact resistance of assemblies. Its thixotropic amber formulation does not sag, fills gaps up to 0.40 in, and cures at room temperature with an open time of 4 to 7 minutes and handling strength in 10 to 15 minutes — requiring little or no surface preparation while resisting thermal cycling, chemicals and environmental conditions.

Gap Filling - Fast Room Temperature Cure

  • Open time 4 - 7 minutes - handling strength in 10 - 15 minutes
  • 10:1 mix ratio by volume (9.6:1 by weight) - full cure in 24 hours at 77°F
  • Little or no surface preparation required

Flexible Methacrylate Adhesive - 95% Elongation

  • High elongation of 95% (ASTM D 638) - absorbs substrate movement and thermal expansion
  • Tensile strength >2,500 PSI - lap shear >2,900 PSI on stainless steel and aluminum
  • Strength increases after 30-day environmental cycling (>3,100 PSI)
  • Retains >2,900 PSI after 30-day immersion in gasoline, kerosene and hot water

Vibration, Fatigue & Impact Resistance

  • The vibration resistant adhesive for hidden automotive assemblies, powertrains and industrial compressors
  • Fatigue resistant structural adhesive for high cyclic-vibration equipment
  • Impact resistance >21 ft·lb/in (ASTM D 256)
  • Replaces traditional fastening methods such as welds, screws and rivets when the engineering requirements of the assembly allow it

How to Use ADINOX M420?

Surface Preparation

  • Wear gloves and protective eyewear - work in a well-ventilated area
  • Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of grease, oil and contaminants - degrease with ADINOX® DS 400
  • Higher bond strengths are achieved on lightly sanded surfaces

Prepare the Adhesive

  • Purge the cartridge before installing the 10:1 static mixing nozzle
  • Discard the initial mixed material in the nozzle to ensure the proper mix ratio
  • Apply between 65°F and 85°F for optimal cure - lower temperatures slow cure, higher temperatures accelerate it

Bond and Cure

  • Apply enough adhesive to completely fill the gap - join parts within the 4 - 7 min open time
  • Immobilize the parts during the 10 - 15 min working time - do not move until handling strength is reached
  • Full cure in 24 h at 77°F - clean uncured adhesive with isopropanol, acetone or MEK; cured adhesive only by mechanical removal

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ADINOX M420 vibration resistant adhesive?

ADINOX M420 is a vibration resistant adhesive: a two-component, flexibilized toughened structural adhesive with a 10:1 mix ratio that increases the vibration, fatigue and impact resistance of metal, plastic and composite assemblies.

How flexible is M420?

As a flexible methacrylate adhesive, M420 reaches 95% elongation (ASTM D 638), absorbing substrate movement caused by differences in thermal expansion coefficients while keeping a structural bond.

What is the mix ratio of M420?

M420 uses a 10:1 mix ratio by volume (9.6:1 by weight), dispensed through a static mixing nozzle from a dual cartridge, with a 4-7 minute open time and handling strength in 10-15 minutes.

Can M420 replace welds, screws or rivets?

M420 replaces traditional fastening methods such as welds, screws and rivets when the engineering requirements of the assembly allow it, distributing stress across the full bond area as a fatigue resistant structural adhesive.

What gap can M420 fill?

This vibration resistant adhesive fills gaps up to 0.40 in without sagging thanks to its thixotropic formulation — suitable for irregular joints and oversized bond lines.

Which substrates does M420 bond?

It bonds stainless steel, aluminum (1000-6000 and anodized), carbon steel, ABS, PMMA, nylon, PBT, PPO, PVC, PET, polycarbonate, fiberglass (FRP), carbon fiber, Kevlar, wood and ceramics. It is not suitable for PE/PP, PTFE, silicone, aluminum 7000, galvanized steel, copper, bronze or brass.

Is M420 resistant to chemicals and weathering?

Yes. After 30-day immersion (ASTM D 1002, Al/Al), this vibration resistant adhesive retains over 2,900 PSI against gasoline, xylene, 10% acetic acid, HD-30 oil, kerosene and hot water, and its strength increases after the 30-day environmental cycle.

Does the amber color of M420 change over time?

Yes. M420 is not UV stable and the amber adhesive yellows over time. This affects appearance only — bond performance is not affected. It is not recommended for imperceptible seams on visible work surfaces.

What is the service temperature range?

This vibration resistant adhesive performs from -40 to 250°F when cured, resisting thermal cycling with cohesive failure.
