About ADINOX C306 - Low Viscosity Cyanoacrylate
ADINOX® C306 is a low viscosity cyanoacrylate engineered for wicking grade capillary bonding of pre-assembled parts. At 25-40 cP - the lowest viscosity in the ADINOX Serie C - this wicking cyanoacrylate flows into tight-fitting joints by capillary action, delivering rapid fixture times as fast as 5 seconds on steel.
This thin cyanoacrylate adhesive meets MIL-PRF-46050 Type II Class 1 - the only mil-spec cyanoacrylate in the ADINOX Serie C for wicking applications - making it ideal for bonding rubbers, plastics, leather, and metals in assemblies where conventional application before joining is impractical. As a wicking grade cyanoacrylate, this low viscosity cyanoacrylate is the go-to choice when a thin, fast-flowing adhesive must reach a sealed joint after assembly.

How to Use ADINOX C306
Important - Wicking Grade: Unlike conventional cyanoacrylates, C306 is applied after the parts are assembled. The ultra-low viscosity allows it to wick into the joint by capillary action.
Surface Preparation
- Clean surfaces with ADINOX® DS 400 degreaser (or acetone) to remove oil, dust, and contaminants
- Surfaces must be dry and free of moisture
- For inactive surfaces or slow-curing substrates, apply ADINOX® 712 activator to one surface and allow to dry
Assemble Parts First
- Fit the parts together before applying adhesive
- Ensure tight, close-fitting joints - gaps up to 0.002 in are ideal for capillary wicking
- Parts should be properly aligned and held in position
Apply Along the Joint Edge
- Apply a small amount of C306 along the edge of the pre-assembled joint
- The adhesive will wick into the gap by capillary action - no pressure required
- Use minimal amount - excess adhesive may cause blooming on exposed surfaces
- For larger assemblies, apply at multiple points along the joint perimeter
Curing
- Fixture occurs in 5-12 seconds on steel - do not disturb during this time
- Full cure in 24 hours at room temperature
- Higher humidity accelerates cure; lower humidity slows it
- Use ADINOX® 712 activator to accelerate cure on inactive surfaces

* Tip: For inactive surfaces (certain plastics, acidic woods, or contaminated metals), apply ADINOX® 712 activator to one surface before assembly. This ensures rapid and reliable cure even on difficult substrates.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a low viscosity cyanoacrylate?
A wicking grade cyanoacrylate is an ultra-low viscosity instant adhesive (typically below 50 cP) designed to flow into pre-assembled joints by capillary action. ADINOX C306 at 25-40 cP penetrates tight-fitting gaps without needing to disassemble parts, making it ideal for concentric fits, press fits, and slip fits where conventional application before assembly is impractical.
Does C306 cause blooming?
ADINOX C306 is classified as Class 1 (general purpose) under MIL-PRF-46050, which means standard blooming may occur - a white haze on surfaces near the bond line caused by cyanoacrylate vapor. For applications where blooming is unacceptable (optical assemblies, cosmetic surfaces, electronics), use ADINOX® C95 or ADINOX® C50, which are formulated to reduce blooming.
How does capillary bonding work?
Assemble the parts first, then apply ADINOX C306 along the edge of the joint. The adhesive is drawn into the gap between the mating surfaces by capillary action - the same force that makes water rise in a thin tube. The tighter the fit (gaps up to 0.002 in are ideal), the stronger the capillary pull. No pressure or spreading is needed; the adhesive distributes itself evenly throughout the bond line.
How fast does C306 cure?
As a low viscosity cyanoacrylate, ADINOX C306 achieves fixture in 5-12 seconds on carbon steel at 68 °F and 65% RH - the fastest fixture time of any low viscosity cyanoacrylate in the ADINOX Serie C. On pine wood, fixture is as fast as 2-5 seconds. Full strength develops in 24 hours at room temperature. On inactive or acidic surfaces, use ADINOX® 712 activator to accelerate cure.
Can I use C306 on pre-assembled parts?
Yes - that is exactly what C306 is designed for. As a low viscosity cyanoacrylate, its wicking grade formulation (25-40 cP) is specifically engineered for post-assembly application. Apply the adhesive along the edge of the assembled joint and it will wick into tight-fitting gaps by capillary action, distributing itself throughout the bond line without needing to take the assembly apart.
What is the difference between C306 and C301?
The key difference is viscosity and intended application. ADINOX C306 has a viscosity of 25-40 cP (wicking grade), designed for capillary bonding of pre-assembled parts with tight gaps. ADINOX C301 has a viscosity of 90-120 cP (general purpose), better suited for broader gaps and conventional application before assembly. Choose C306 when parts are already fitted together; choose C301 when you need more gap-filling capability.
When should I use activator 712 with C306?
Use ADINOX® 712 activator when bonding inactive or acidic surfaces where moisture-initiated cure is slow or unreliable. Common scenarios include: dry indoor environments with low humidity, acidic woods (oak, cedar), certain plastics with low surface energy, or when you need to accelerate cure on large bond areas where the adhesive has limited access to atmospheric moisture inside the joint.
What is the difference between a thin cyanoacrylate adhesive and a standard CA?
A thin cyanoacrylate adhesive (also called low viscosity cyanoacrylate) has a viscosity below 50 cP, compared to 100-500 cP for standard formulations. This ultra-low viscosity enables capillary wicking into pre-assembled joints - a capability standard CAs lack. ADINOX C306 at 25-40 cP represents the thinnest formulation in the Serie C, offering the fastest fixture on steel (5-12 seconds) and the ability to penetrate gaps as small as 0.002 in without disassembly.
What does MIL-PRF-46050 Class 1 mean for a wicking cyanoacrylate?
MIL-PRF-46050 is the U.S. military performance specification for cyanoacrylate adhesives. Type II refers to the general adhesive type; Class 1 specifically designates a low viscosity cyanoacrylate of wicking grade (below 50 cP). ADINOX C306 is the only low viscosity cyanoacrylate in the ADINOX Serie C that meets this mil-spec class, making it suitable for defense, aerospace, and precision manufacturing applications requiring documented compliance.
