About ADINOX M460 Slow Cure Methacrylate Adhesive

ADINOX® M460 is a slow cure methacrylate adhesive — a two-component, toughened structural adhesive formulated for bonding a wide range of metals, thermosets, thermoplastics and composite materials.

Its extended open time of 12 - 18 minutes allows precise part positioning in complex assemblies, while delivering full structural strength with excellent impact, fatigue and thermal cycling performance. The thixotropic, black-pigmented formulation of this slow cure methacrylate adhesive resists sagging and cures at room temperature without extensive surface preparation — particularly well-suited for manufacturing processes that require extended adjustment times.

Black Methacrylate Adhesive - Gap Filling

  • Black methacrylate adhesive for industrial bond lines - thixotropic, sag-resistant
  • Gap filling up to 0.31 in for irregular joints and oversized bond lines
  • 10:1 mix ratio by volume (9:1 by weight) - little or no surface preparation on metallic substrates
  • Demonstrated chemical resistance to fuels, solvents, lubricants and aqueous media

Toughened Structural Performance

  • Tensile strength: 3,191 - 3,481 PSI (ASTM D 638) - elongation 50%
  • Lap shear of 3,100 PSI on stainless steel and 2,910 PSI on aluminum - cohesive failure
  • Impact resistance 21 ft·lb/in - cleavage peel >23 pli initial / >17 pli average (ASTM D 3807)
  • Retains over 2,900 PSI after 30-day chemical immersion and 3,200 PSI after the 30-day environmental cycle

Long Open Time Structural Adhesive - Precise Positioning

  • Open time of 12 - 18 minutes - working time of 40 - 55 minutes, the longest of the ADINOX Serie M line
  • The long open time structural adhesive for complex large-format assemblies requiring precise positioning
  • Suited for aerospace composite panels and multi-component industrial equipment where extended alignment time is essential
  • Full cure in 24 hours at 77°F - room temperature, no ovens or fixtures

How to Use ADINOX M460?

Surface Preparation

  • Wear gloves and protective eyewear - work in a well-ventilated area
  • Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of grease, oil and contaminants - degrease with ADINOX® DS 400
  • Little or no surface preparation is required on metallic substrates

Prepare the Adhesive

  • Purge the cartridge before installing the 10:1 static mixing nozzle
  • Discard the initial mixed material in the nozzle to ensure the proper mix ratio
  • Apply a continuous, uniform bead without stopping to prevent bubbles or incomplete mixing

Bond and Cure

  • Position and align parts within the 12 - 18 min open time - ideal for complex, large-format assemblies
  • Immobilize the parts during the 40 - 55 min working time - do not move until handling strength is reached
  • Full cure in 24 h at 77°F - remove the nozzle and clean the cartridge outlet horizontally

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ADINOX M460 slow cure methacrylate adhesive?

ADINOX M460 is a slow cure methacrylate adhesive: a two-component, toughened structural adhesive whose extended open time allows precise part positioning in complex assemblies of metals, thermosets, thermoplastics and composites.

How long is the open time of M460?

As a long open time structural adhesive, M460 offers 12-18 minutes of open time and 40-55 minutes of working time — the longest of the ADINOX Serie M line — ideal for large-format assemblies requiring extended alignment.

What is the mix ratio of M460?

M460 uses a 10:1 mix ratio by volume (9:1 by weight), dispensed through a static mixing nozzle from a dual cartridge, with full cure in 24 hours at 77°F.

How strong is M460?

This slow cure methacrylate adhesive delivers tensile strength of 3,191-3,481 PSI (ASTM D 638), lap shear of 3,100 PSI on stainless steel with cohesive failure, 50% elongation and cleavage peel above 23 pli initial.

What gap can M460 fill?

M460 fills gaps up to 0.31 in without sagging thanks to its thixotropic formulation — suitable for irregular joints and oversized bond lines.

Which substrates does M460 bond?

It bonds stainless steel, aluminum (1000-6000 and anodized), carbon steel, ABS, nylon, PBT, PPO, PVC, PMMA, PET, polycarbonate, fiberglass (FRP), carbon fiber, Kevlar, wood and porcelain. It is not suitable for PE/PP, PTFE, silicone, aluminum 7000, galvanized steel, copper, bronze or brass.

Is M460 resistant to chemicals and weathering?

Yes. After 30-day immersion (ASTM D 1002, Al/Al), M460 retains over 2,900 PSI against gasoline, xylene, 10% acetic acid, HD-30 oil, kerosene and hot water, and keeps 3,200 PSI after the 30-day environmental cycle.

Why is M460 black?

M460 is a black methacrylate adhesive oriented to industrial bond lines. Being black, it carries no UV-yellowing limitation.

What is the service temperature range?

This slow cure methacrylate adhesive performs from -40 to 250°F when cured, retaining cohesive failure across the range.
